Product Overview

General Questions

What is PlusMail?

PlusMail is a modern email platform and infrastructure service designed to combine user-friendly mailbox management with reliable transactional email delivery. It allows businesses and developers to manage branded organizational mailboxes and dispatch critical system notifications backed by automated cryptographic DNS authentication.

Who is PlusMail built for?

PlusMail is tailored for developers, technology startups, and modern businesses who require clean, reliable email workflows without the excessive per-seat costs or opaque deliverability mechanisms of legacy providers.

Is PlusMail available to everyone yet?

PlusMail is currently in an active Developer Preview phase. We are onboarding early design partners and technical teams to evaluate our delivery pipeline and custom domain DNS automation prior to general commercial release.

Can I connect and use my own custom domain?

Yes, absolutely. PlusMail is specifically architected for custom domains. You can connect your organizational domain (e.g., yourcompany.com) and verify sending and receiving identities using our automated Cloudflare DNS integration or manual record placement.

Architecture & Deliverability

Technical & Policy Questions

What is transactional email and how does it differ from marketing email?

Transactional emails are automated, 1-to-1 messages triggered directly by a user action or system event—such as verification codes, password resets, account security alerts, and order receipts. They are time-critical and expected by the recipient. In contrast, marketing emails are broadcast promotional campaigns sent to lists of subscribers, requiring explicit opt-in and mandatory unsubscribe links.

What are SPF, DKIM, and DMARC, and why are they necessary?

These are the three foundational email authentication protocols:

• SPF (Sender Policy Framework): A DNS TXT record listing IP addresses authorized to send mail for your domain.
• DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail): A digital signature attached to headers using asymmetric cryptographic keys to verify message integrity.
• DMARC: A policy record aligning SPF and DKIM and instructing receiving mailbox providers on how to handle unauthenticated mail (monitor, quarantine, or reject).

Major mailbox providers (like Google and Yahoo) require all three to prevent domain spoofing and phishing.

How does PlusMail handle email bounces and spam complaints?

PlusMail captures delivery event notifications in real time via upstream webhooks. When an email triggers a permanent hard bounce (5xx code) or a recipient registers a spam complaint, our suppression engine immediately places that email address on an automated suppression list to prevent repeat sends and insulate your sending reputation.

What cloud infrastructure powers PlusMail?

PlusMail utilizes Amazon Web Services (Amazon Simple Email Service v2) for high-deliverability cloud outbound delivery, Cloudflare for edge DNS provisioning and incoming message routing, and dedicated PostgreSQL storage for tenant configuration and suppression logs.
